The Deseret Dramatic Association came about as an 1852 reorganization of the Deseret Musical and Dramatic Association that was established in 1850. The main venue for the association was the Social Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. With the arrival of Johnston's Army in 1857, activities at the Social Hall ceased, however, by the winter of 1857/58 the association was sponsoring performances again. This didn't last long it seems because from 1859 to 1860 no theatrical productions were performed by the association. It wasn't until 1861 when Brigham Young called for the association to start entertaining again that their performances resumed. In 1862 the new Salt Lake Theatre was finished and became the new venue for most theatrical performances. The exact date that the Deseret Dramatic Association was disbanded is not known, but it seems to have disappeared by the early 1870s.
