The North Dakota State Horticultural Society was organized in September 1923 in Valley City, ND. First elected officers included: E.C. Hilborn, President; George Will, Vice President; A.F. Yaeger, Secretary; C.A. Chinberg, Treasurer. Membership increased during the first year from seventeen to one hundred thirty. A prior North Dakota Horticultural Society, affiliated with the Minnesota Horticultural Society, was organized in 1904 and disbanded in 1919. Its meetings were held during the Tri-State Grain Growers convention.
