William E. Darrington was born on a farm in Persia, Iowa on May 31, 1904. He attended Iowa State College (University) in the agricultural course. Darrington served as a State Representative as a Republican for Harrison County from 1951 to 1970 (nine terms), except for one term in 1965. In 1959 he was appointed Speaker Pro Tempore of the Iowa House of Representatives. Active in community affairs, he served ten years on the Agricultural Adjustment Administration county and township committees before serving as a State Representative. Representative Darrington also farmed, bred Shorthorn cattle, and directed the Home Savings Bank of Persia.
