Jones, Herman T. (Herman Theodric), 1909-1983
Herman Theodric Jones was born May 26, 1906 in Little Rock, Arkansas to John Redel and Gertrude Beatrice (Leatherwood) Jones. Jones received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Zoology from the University of Kansas; he also did graduate work in Education Administration at that University. From 1932-1939, Jones taught and was Registrar at Western University in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1939, he became Principal of Topeka, Kansas' Kansas Vocational School. Eight years later, in 1947, Jones accepted a position in the Prairie View University (Prairie View, Texas) Biology Department. He later became Principal of the Prairie View Training School, serving from 1951 until his 1971 retirement.
Jones was active in a number of activities, including Alpha Phi Alpha, the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, and the Ambassador Club, of which he was president.
Jones married Gwendolyn Mae Butler on Jan 12, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple had four children, Ralph Martin, Janet Elaine, Gayle Carolyn, and Patricia Lee. Herman T. Jones died April 3, 1983 in Hempstead, Texas.
