Harry Cummings McPherson, Jr. (b. Tyler, Texas, August 22, 1929-died Bethesda, Maryland, February 16, 2012) was a lawyer and government official. He served the U.S. Senate as assistant general counsel to Democratic policy committee, 1956 to 1959; associate counsel, 1959 to 1961; and general counsel, 1961 to 1963. He served as Deputy Under Secretary for International Affairs at the Department of the Army, 1963 to 1964; Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs at the Department of State, 1964 to 1965; Special Assistant Counsel to President Johnson, 1965 to 1966; and Special Counsel to President Johnson, 1966 to 1969. His book, A Political Education, was published in 1972.
