Chicago, Ill. businessman, investor in Colorado real estate, colonizing, and mining during 1870s. His interests included Denver Villa Park Association, Chicago Colorado Colony (which became Longmont, Colo.), and the Ocean Wave and Madagascar mines in Custer County, Colo.

George Stephen Bowen (1829-1905) was a prominent entrepreneur and civic leader in Chicago and Elgin, Illinois.

Mining engineer B. Frank Hand (b. 1855) was associated with various mining enterprises in Cook Inlet, Alaska, and in California in the late 1890s. As mining engineer for the Alaska Gold Mining Company, he prospected for gold in Cook Inlet in 1896-1897. In 1898-1899 he offered his services to George S. Bowen and the Alaska Transportation and Investment Company. At the same time (1899) he was vice-president of the Pacific Extraction Company in San Francisco. By 1900 he was president of an oil company in Los Angeles.
