Nicoll Floyd Elmendorf was born at Poughkeepsie, NY, May 1857, the only son of the Rev. Dr. J. Elmendorf. After graduating from Rutgers College with an A.B. in 1878, he received an A.M. from Rutgers in 1881, studied law with Judge Nelson at Poughkeepsie, and was admitted to the bar there. He moved to New York City and entered the law firm of Tenbroek & Van Orden. During the latter years of his life, Elmendorf conducted a real estate law business, also in New York City. He died of kidney disease in New York City on November 19, 1890 at the age of 33.

Nicoll Floyd Elmendorf was born at Poughkeepsie, NY, in May 1857, the only son of the Rev. Dr. J. Elmendorf of the Collegiate Reformed Church of Harlem. While at Rutgers, he was active in his fraternity (Delta Phi), as well as in the the rifle, boating, drama and athletic clubs. He also worked on the Scarlet Letter and edited the Targum.

After graduating from Rutgers College with an A.B. in 1878, he attained an A.M. degree from Rutgers in 1881, studied law with Judge Nelson at Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and was admitted to the bar there. He then moved to New York City and entered the law firm of Tenbroek and Van Orden. During the latter years of his life, Elmendorf conducted a real estate law business at Nos. 135 and 137 Broadway in New York City.

Nicoll Floyd Elmendorf died of acute Bright's disease (kidney disease) in New York City on November 19, 1890. He was 33 years old. The funeral took place at his home (located at 608 Lexington Avenue, New York City) at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 1890. His body was then carried to Poughkeepsie by train, where he was buried that same day.
