Brooke, a sociologist and peace activist, was a partner in the Elmo Roper public opinion research firm from 1952-1964. He taught sociology at New York University from 1966-1969 and received his Ph. D. from Columbia University in 1974. Brooke was a trustee of the Fund for Peace from its establishment in 1967 until his death and served as the Fund's president from 1976-1979.
