Reynolds, Malvina

Malvina Reynolds (1900-1978), a Jewish woman from Berkeley, Calif., was a folksinger, songwriter, and performer at folk festivals and on children's television. Reynolds was a political and social activist and wrote a column for the American leftist newspaper People's Daily World founded in San Francisco, Calif., in the 1930s. Reynold's original songs, especially those she wrote in the 1960s, reflected her social justice causes and concerns including civil rights for Black people in the American South, labor unions, women's reproductive health rights, environmental justice, peace, the war in Vietnam, and nuclear power.
