Jessie Hopwood Hughes was born on March 13, 1895. Mrs. Hughes was married, but the identity of her husband is unknown. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in the Ashland District of the Kentucky Conference and a published author. Mrs. Hughes wrote the biography of Francis Newbery, "My son Francis," as well as the article, "Peter Cartwright: circuit rider," which appeared in the Methodist magazine, "Classmate." Jessie Hopwood Hughes died on November 14, 1978 and last resided in Ashland, Kentucky.
