Umfreville, John Brand, 1784-1820

John Brand Umfreville was born in England in May 1784, the son of William Umfreville. He had two sisters, Margaret and Eleanor. He joined the British Royal Navy around 1798 and served in the East Indies and North America. During the War of 1812, he commanded the sloop Childers in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Umfreville returned to England around 1815 and died on April 6, 1820. He never married.
