Smith, L. E. (Lucius Ernest), 1878-1955
Variant namesL.E Smith; medical missionary for the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. in Puerto Rico and West Africa. Also active in religious organizations in Baltimore, Md. while attending Johns Hopkins Medical School; left Africa in 1922 and toured the U.S. for several years, giving mission lectures. In 1930, Smith took the position of Executive Secretary of the Kentucky Tuberculosis Association and pioneered significantly in tuberculosis prevention and public education.
