Chester E. Barr was a Corporal in the United States Army, 131st Signal Radio Intelligence Company. Originally from Sacramento, California, Barr arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, on September 11, 1942. He was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, from September 1942 through September 1944. While serving in the 131st, Barr received the Good Conduct Medal. While in Alaska, Barr was a member of the Fort Richardson Ski Club and took many photographs of his activities and surroundings, which he sent home to his mother.
