Thomas, William Rosborough, 1848-1899.
A native of Ridgeway, S.C., and a longtime resident of New York City, ca. 1879 until the late 1890s, Thomas resided in El Paso, Texas, at the time of his death; Thomas served as company treasurer of the Safety Car Heating and Lighting Co., a New York company that provided illumination and climate control on board trains using a pressurized combination of coal gas and oil; by 1904, the company supplied gas to 20,000 railroad cars from 70 locations around the United States.
