Lewis, Irving J.

Irving J. Lewis was born on July 9, 1918. He received his B.A. from Harvard in 1939, and his M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1940. After military service during World War II, Lewis began a long career in the federal government, working in the Office of Price Administration (1946-1947), the Department of State (1959-1960), the Federal Aviation Agency (1960), the U.S. Bureau of the Budget (1947-1957 and 1960-1968), and the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (1968-1970). After retiring from federal government service in 1970, Lewis was appointed a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Social Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
