Yale College class of 1863; assistant geologist for the State of Illinois, 1867-68; Professor of Natural Science, East Tennessee University at Knoxville, 1872; geologist with the United States Geological Survey of the Territories, 1872; appointed assistant state geologist of Georgia in 1875; involved in gold mining and prospecting in Georgia, where he was killed in a mining accident in 1879.
