Patrick McLaughlin was born December 5, 1944, in Great Falls, Montana. In 1967, he received a BA degree in history and political science from the University of Montana. He went on to earn an MA degree in history from the University of Montana (1973), an MLS degree from the University of Oregon (1975), and a PhD in history from Oklahoma State University (1983). From 1975 to 1984, he held a position as social sciences librarian at Oklahoma State University. From 1984 to 2006, he served as reference librarian and reference department head at Central Washington University’s library. He specialized in the social sciences, offering library instruction, serving on library and university committees, and advising in database searching and transitions in library systems. Throughout the 1980s-1990s, he held positions on CWU’s Faculty Senate. Patrick McLaughlin was married to Nancy J. McLaughlin and father to two children-Matthew and Christopher.
