The UK Data Archive can help users to locate and acquire data from other Archives within Europe using a series of reciprocal agreements with the individual institutions. Available data includes historical and contemporary data and data important for cross-national comparative research. Information on several key series are available through the UKDA's online catalogue and dedicated web pages. They include the Eurobarometer Survey Series and the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP).
The Eurobarometer was launched in 1974 and is conducted on behalf of the European Commission to provide regular monitoring of the social and political attitudes in the European Union (European Community). Since the early seventies representative national samples in all European Union (European Community) member countries are simultaneously interviewed in each spring and each autumn.
The ISSP is a continuing annual programme of cross-national collaboration on surveys covering topics important for social science research. Since 1983 it has brought together pre-existing social science projects and co-ordinated research goals, thereby adding a cross-national, cross-cultural perspective to the individual national studies.
