Dartmouth College. Chapel.
In 1925 the Dartmouth College administration determined that student attendance at daily chapel exercises should be voluntary, not compulsory. Melville, who was Secretary of the Class of 1879 at this time, began corresponding with college officials and others about the change, of which he did not approve.
