John Holland Gold Pen Company.

Hide Profile

John H. Holland, an Irish immigrant, purchased a Cincinnati pen manufacturing business in 1862. The business was incorporated in 1885 as the John Holland Gold Pen Company. The company manufactured and sold fountain and stylographic pens, mechanical pencils, and pen and pencil cases. The company held several patents for its innovative designs and products, particularly the manufacture of iridium tipped pen points. Government restrictions on the use of gold, rubber, plastic and metal during World War II forced limitations on pen manufacturing. Holland's three sons, James, John A. and Robert, were involved with the family business. The firm closed in 1980 following the death of Robert Holland.
