Aronson, Donald G.

Donald G. Aronson was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on October 2, 1929. He received his BS in 1951, his MS in 1952, and his PhD in 1956. Prior to joining the faculty of the University of Minnesota, Aronson was a research assistant for Project Whirlwind at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1950 and 1952 and a research assistant in the University of Illinois Digital Computer Laboratory from 1956 to 1957. In September of 1957, Aronson joined the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology Mathematics Department as an instructor. Aronson retired as Emeritus Professor of Mathematics in June 2002, but continued his affiliation with the university as the Director of the Post-Doctoral Program at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications.In the summer of 1954, Aronson was employed in London as a Scientific Officer at the National Research Development Counsel to work with Christopher Strachey and Donald Gilles. His assignment was to write a program to simulate the proposed Ferranti Pegasus Computer on the Ferranti Mark 1 Computer at the University of Manchester. The original program sheets for the successful simulation are among these papers.
