Wabash and Erie Canal Company.
The Wabash and Erie Canal was begun in Fort Wayne, Ind. in 1832. By the 1850s, the railroads were making canals unprofitable, and the Wabash and Erie Canal Company was formed to operate the canal. The canal was abandoned and the company disbanded in 1874.
