Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Special Committee on Camp and Church Activities

In 1940 the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. established the United World Emergency Fund, which became the Wartime Service Commission in 1942. In 1941 it created the Presbyterian Emergency Service Commission to work with service personnel; this became a special committee of the Wartime Service Commission in 1942 called the Special Committee on Camp and Church Activities. This body merged with the Committee on Army and Navy Chaplains in 1946 to become the Special Committee on Chaplains and Service Personnel. In 1954 "Special" was dropped from the name; in 1957 it became the Dept. of Chaplains and Service Personnel, and was continued under this name after 1958 by the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.
