Katherine Dunn was born on October 24, 1945 in Garden City, Kansas. Dunn was raised on the West coast and attended Portland State University and Reed College from 1964 to 1968, where she embarked on a career as a writer. In 1981 Dunn began work as a journalist writing about boxing. In addition to writing for the Associated Press, her prize-winning boxing stories have appeared in many publications including: The Ring , KO Magazine , Vogue, and Esquire . In addition to her work as a journalist, Dunn has achieved international acclaim as a novelist. Her third novel, Geek Love was a finalist for the 1898 National Book Award and has been translated into over ten languages. She is also the author of the novels "Attic" and "Truck." Dunn resides in Portland, Oregon.
