Dibbs, George Richard, 1834-1904
Variant namesSir George Dibbs (1834-1904) was first elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, 1874. He was Colonial Treasurer, 1883-1885, Premier and Colonial Treasurer, Oct. - Dec. 1885, Premier and Colonial Secretary, 1886-1887, 1889, 1891-1894. At first a supporter of free trade he later became an advocate of protection and an opponent of Sir Henry Parkes and Sir George Houston Reid.
