Biographical note: Pioneer; John Crampton's step-father, James A. Moore, came to Arizona in 1866 and owned the overland stage, for the Overland Mail Company, between Yuma and Tucson as well as operated Maricopa Station until 1878 when the railroad arrived. Crampton assisted his step-father in the business and was said to be the first white child to come into the Salt River Valley. He was later active in mining and ranching in the Globe area, married Rosella Snelling and had four children.
