Mason Bohr Freeman was born February 8, 1914, in Chicago, Ill. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in June 1935, and advanced trough grades to the rank of rear admiral in July 1963. Freeman died on September 11, 2003, in San Diego, California.

Mason Freeman was born in 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1935. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, commanded the U.S. Pacific cruiser-destroyer force, was director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was superintendent of the Naval Postgraduate School before retiring in 1979.
