Professor of English at the University of South Florida and editor of the John D. MacDonald (JDM) Bibliophile newsletter. Also active in the Tampa Writers' Alliance, the Florida Suncoast Writers' Conference, and the Friends of the Library in Hillsborough County. Hirshberg and his wife, Ann, founded the Ann and Ed Hirshberg scholarship in creative writing at the University of South Florida.
