The Professional and Scientific (P & S) Council was officially formed in 1977, after starting as an ad hoc committee in 1971. According to the Council's constitution, "the P & S Council serves as a resource and an advocate for P & S employees," as well as providing recommendations for policies and procedures to the university administration. The Council consists of an Executive Committee and six standing committees: Communication, Compensation and Benefits, Peer Advisory, Policies and Procedures, Representation and Awards, and Retention and Recruitment. The Council hosts Open Forums throughout the academic year, and also provides funding for continuing education.
