The Campus Names Committee was appointed in 1964 by Georgia Tech President Edwin Harrison. The purpose of the committee was to recommend names for campus buildings and streets. Prominent faculty, alumni and administrators were selected in an on-going process to serve on the committee. The committee continued under presidents Hansen and Pettit. Glenn Rainey, professor of English, served as chairman beginning in 1967.
