Laura Hammond (1869-1958), daughter of Georgia Congressman Nathaniel J. Hammond, graduated from the Pratt Institute and began work at Georgia Tech's library in 1905. Under her leadership, the library grew from 3000 to 16,000 volumes, and acquired its own building. She retired in 1925 and died in 1958.
