Griffith, William Nelson.
Griffith entered the Royal Navy in 1811. Was a midshipman on board the HMS Griper during William Parry's first expedition (1819-1820) to the Arctic and served as midshipman on the HMS Hecla on the second expedition (1821-1823). He later served as a lieutenant on the HMS Barreto Junior in 1845 when it provisioned Franklin's expedition. Griffith Point on Melville Island and Griffith Creek in Hecla Strait are named for him.
