John Marcus Farris was born March 8, 1894, in Hamilton, Montana, the son of Western News publisher James T. Farris and his wife Alice. The family moved frequently as James T. Farris published newspapers in many towns around the state. They eventually moved to Libby. John Marcus Farris worked as an insurance agent in Libby and later in Billings and Helena. In 1923 he worked as a Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue at the Dempsey-Gibbons Fight in Shelby, Montana. Farris died in Portland, Oregon, November 28, 1979.
