Luther Burnham Harris was born on January 14, 1847 in Worcester, Vermont. In 1861, he enlisted to fight in the Civil War and was captured by the Confederates and imprisoned at Andersonville, Georgia (Camp Sumpter) three years later. He survived and escaped on February 28, 1865. After the war, Luther worked for the U.S. Postal Service, a few local railroad companies, and finally settled down as a farmer and banker later in life. He married Olive Powers in 1867 and they had three sons together. They were divorced in 1892, but neither remarried. Luther B. Harris died on November 12, 1913.
