(B.S. in Chemical Engineering), Polytechnic College of Pennsylvania, (1874), M.D., U. of Pennsylvania, (1877); faculty, School of Medicine, U. of Pennsylvania, (1877-1884, 1890-1921); professor of anatomy, histology and embryology; his most notable contributions relate to the histology, pathology and development of the sense organs; author of two standard medical textbooks Histology (1st ed., 1893) and Human anatomy (1st ed., 1907).
