North Carolina State University. Student Government
Student Government at North Carolina State College (later University) began in 1921. At that time, the group was made up of both students and faculty and was called Campus Government. Following the establishment of the Faculty Senate in 1954, a new Student Government Constitution was ratified in 1955, reestablishing a separate Student Government which included a student body president and governing committees. The Student Senate came into being in 1969 with the ratification of the Student Body Constitution. In 1972, Student Government moved to the Talley Student Center, where it remained until moving to the Witherspoon Student Center.

Student Government at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) began in 1921. At that time, the group was made up of both students and faculty and was called Campus Government. Following the establishment of the Faculty Senate in 1954, a new Student Government Constitution was ratified in 1955, establishing a separate Student Government which included a student body president and governing committees.
The Student Senate came into being in 1969 with the ratification of the Student Body Constitution. This Constitution is still the present charter of the Student Body Government. While occasional amendments to this constitution have been ratified, most of its provisions remain intact from 1969, and the evolution of Student Government continued in statute. The loose framework of the Student Body Constitution has allowed these statutes to change and evolve considerably over the years. There was a comprehensive revision of the statutes in 1998 and in 2002, the Omnibus Executive Branch Act created the current Executive Branch.
In 1972, Student Government moved to the Talley Student Center, where it remained until moving to the Witherspoon Student Center. The records of the Student Government were traditionally kept on hand in the offices, but in 1999 the Student Government Archives switched to an online format. These documents can now be viewed online .
