1903 course "Elements of forestry" offered by Botany Department. In 1904-1918 course offered in forestry with laboratory offered by various departments. Course in forestry from 1918-1936 offered by Botany and Bacteriology Department. Forestry course discontinued from 1936-1946. Two-year, pre-forestry curriculum with transferable credits to an accredited program offered from 1947-1956. Board of Trustees authorizes, in 1956, the creation of Department of Forestry with forest management as the curriculum. 1962 the Department of Forestry is accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Graduate study begins (Master of Science degree) in 1965. Master of Forestry degree approved in May 1970. Department moved from College of Agricultural and Biological Sciences to College of Forest and Recreation Resources in July 1970.
