William W., Laurence A. and John M. Duncan were brothers. William was part owner in Van Winkle & Duncan, a hardware store in Sacramento. John owned John W. Duncan & Company Hardware in Austin, Nev. Laurence was a clerk in the Austin store. The family also owned a farm in Green Valley, Calif., near Martinez or Benicia. The Duncans had at least one sister, Alice.
