Ida Smith (1931- ) served as the first director of the Women's Resource Institute at Brigham Young University from 1978 to 1983. She has also worked with the BYU Alumni Association.

The Women's Research Institute (WRI) of Brigham Young University was founded in 1978. It promotes the scholarly study of women's unique patterns of development, their viewpoints and contributions, and their involvement in families, communities, religions, and societies throughout the world. The Institute sponsors the Women's Studies Minor, conducts programmatic research in areas of concern to women, and supports relevant research by faulty and students throughout the University.
