Platte, a musician, music and voice teacher, master violinist and pianist, was born in Germany and educated in Europe. He came to Saginaw (Mich.) in 1881, where Platte founded and conducted both the Schumann and Polyhymnia clubs. He also served as choir director and organist at St. Paul's Episcopal, St. John's, and First Congregational churches. Platte also directed the Germania Mannerchor opera in 1883 and the New Ladies Choral Union in 1893. Platte was a member of the American Guild of Organists. From 1887 to 1889 he studied organ in Berlin under Reinberger, an organ master. He then returned to Saginaw. In 1897 Platte moved to Detroit for a few years, before returning to Saginaw. He also composed sacred choral works, songs, and instrumental music. He died at age 56 on Jan. 12, 1916 in Saginaw.
