Variant namesRafael Gallegos was the son of José Rafael Gallegos, who was president of Costa Rica from 1833-1835. His wife Sara Montealegre was the daughter of José María Montealegre, who was president of Costa Rica from 1859-1863. He emigrated to San Francisco, Calif. in 1872 and was appointed Consul General of Costa Rica in San Francisco, Calif., Mar. 24, 1891.
