Jefferson, Jack, 1921-2000

Jefferson was born in Lead, S.D., the birthplace of his mentor and major influence, Clyfford Still. He studied with Still at the California School of Fine Arts from 1946 to 1950 and there participated in the development of the west coast version of Abstract Expressionism. He was a founder of the Metart Gallery, which opened in 1949.
