Physician and superintendent of the Illinois Hospital for the Insane from 1854 -1870. He testified in the case of Robert C. Sloo, who in 1856 was accused of killing John E. Hall, the county clerk of Williamson County and a political enemy of his father. Sloo was acquitted on the grounds of emotional insanity and this caused outrage around the state.
