Samuel Verplanck Hoffman (1802-1880) was a lawyer and businessman who amassed considerable holdings in New York City real estate. He was the father of Rev. Eugene Augustus Hoffman, and grandfather of astronomer and mechanical engineer Samuel Verplanck Hoffman (1866-1942).
