The Women's Equity Committee was originally constituted in February 1975 to study and compare the salaries of men and women faculty at UND and to suggest appropriate salary adjustments. The Committee has expanded since its beginning and now addresses a variety of issues and concerns relevant to the status and professional development of women faculty. The original members of the committee were appointed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Women's Equity Committee members and the Vice President select new members for a three-year term. The WEC sponsored a variety of programs and projects including Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, the UND Administrative Internship Program, and an annual conference. In the 1980s, the committee began sponsoring professional development grants for female faculty.
