Anna Waynette Vandergriff was born on June 12, 1927. She grew up in Arlington, Texas, and attended Arlington schools. Upon graduation from Arlington High School, she attended North Texas Agricultural College, later transferring to Texas Christian University where she continued her studies in music. She left TCU when she married her childhood sweetheart Tom Vandergriff. They have been married for fifty-one years. Mrs. Vandergriff worked at North Texas Agricultural College for six years in the music department, teaching piano and writing copy for Col. Earl Irons. She quit working to raise her four children.
