Parish Church of St. Helena (Beaufort, S.C.). Vestry
The Parish Church of Saint Helena in Beaufort County, S.C., was built in 1724 and is one of the oldest active churches in the U.S. The church was enlarged twice, once in 1817 and again in 1842. The church was occupied by the Union Army in 1861 and most of it was stripped of furnishings; after the war, the church suffered damage from hurricanes, but was rebuilt. The church still functions today.
