Edward M. Holmes, emeritus professor of English at the University of Maine at Orono, was born in 1910 in New Jersey and has been a resident of Maine since 1939. He has an Ed.M. from the University of Maine and an A.M. and a doctorate from Brown University. He taught in the University of Maine English department from 1956 to 1976, specializing in American literature and the teaching of writing. He has written many stories and articles for New England journals, has contributed to anthologies, and is the author of Faulkner's twice-told tales, Driftwood, A part of the main, and Mostly Maine.
