Thaddeus K. Oglesby (1848-1920) was born in Missouri but spent most of his life in Georgia. His father was the Superintendent of Schools in Fort Gaines, Georgia. Oglesby enlisted in Company A, Cobb's Guard, of the Georgia Infantry in August, 1864, served with the 24th Georgia Regiment of Artillery, and was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina in April 1865. He was the news editor of the Augusta Chronicle, editor of the Athens Banner, and worked for the New Orleans Time-Democrat. Oglesby lived in Atlanta before moving to Savannah. He published several books and pamphlets and contributed to newspapers and encyclopedias.
