Hames, Eugene S., 1920-2007.

Eugene Hames was born on the Jorgenson Ranch near Phillipsburg, Mont. on July 24, 1920. His family later moved to Missoula, Mont. where he graduated from high school in 1937. Hames enlisted in the Army at Butte, Mont. on March 1, 1943 and volunteered for the ski troops. Rapidly promoted, he became a company First Sergeant. In the fall of 1944, he was accepted at officer candidate school, graduating on November 16, 1944. Hames was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Returning to Camp Swift, Tex., he became a platoon leader with Company K, 85th Infantry Regiment. During combat in Italy, he received the Bronze Star Medal. Hames died on November 23, 2006 in Denver, Colo.
